June 2009 Infineon Race Report

June found NorCal SpecE30 racers back at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, just one week following NASCAR's Toyota/Save Mart 350 event at the same track. Temperatures hit the 100 degree mark, and that combined with the fresh tire rubber deposited by NASCAR the previous weekend made for a very greasy and loose track. Saturday's standing start race saw season points leader Donny Edwards (Team Brimstone Dynasty) take the top podium spot, followed by Brad McClure (BTM Motorwerks), and Tony Zwain (Team SpeedTrapp). On Sunday, a coastal breeze help alleviate some of the heat but temperatures still neared 100 degrees. Donny Edwards traded driving duties with teammate Elliott Taylor. Sunday's pole sitter was Ric McCormick (Team 101 Main). The race turned into a hard fought battle for first with Greg Peterson taking the early lead, followed closely by Ric McCormick and Brad McClure. Ric eventually took the top podium spot followed by Brad in second and Greg in third. The Evil Genius Racing $100 Hard Charger award went to Steven Ferrario of Team J&F Racing. SpecE30 racers got a chance to vie for a $100 Gift Card to Chops Fine Dining in Sacramento. Instead of our usual random hat drawing, those two racers finishing 6th place on Saturday and Sunday won the gift card. Dan DiTrapani won on Saturday and Scott Clough won the card on Sunday. Cheers guys...Chops is one of Sacramento's finest dining facilites.

Season points leaders to date are Team Brimstone Dynasty in first with 887 points, BTM Motorwerks in second with 712 points and Scott Neville in third with 636 points.  A close 4th in points is Scott Clough with 635 followed by Greg Peterson with 607 points.
