Infineon June 30-31 2007
Written by Scott Neville
Two SpecE30s showed up for Group A racing and another handful of E30s were doing HPDE or Time Trial. Donny Edwards/Kevin Borchers were there sharing the #1 car for Team Valley Motorwerks and Steve Krshul brought his #804 SpecE30 also sponsored by Valley Motorwerks. HDPE / Time Trail entrants included AJ Goldsmith, Steve Russo, and newcomer Elliott Taylor.
Saturday: Donny Edwards would be the lone SpecE30 racing this weekend as Steve Krshul’s rear differential decided to grenade during qualifying. Steve however turned a quick 2:02.26 before his rear end started making rocks-in-the-box noises. Donny qualified fastest with a 2:01.10. Steve's mechanical problems eliminated him from the afternoon Group A race. Donny finished an uncontested first place and turned a 2:00.21 for his fastest lap.
Steve Russo, running in Time Trial in preparation for Sunday’s competitive license test, had an unfortunate off in the S’s after hitting spilled fuel from a Mustang running in front of him. Steve’s car hit the K-Wall almost head on and broke the K-wall in half. Luckily Steve emerged unhurt but his car was in pretty bad shape. Steve was testing in TT Saturday and preparing to race Sunday. His lap times (2:03.xx) were within ½ second of Steve Krshul and 1 second behind of Donny. Tough racing luck for Steve. Hopefully we’ll see him back on the track soon.
Sunday: With the help from fellow racer Kevin Borchers, Steve brought up a spare rear diff and got it installed in time for Sunday’s morning practice run. Kevin Borchers qualified for pole with a 2:02.81 with Steve Krshul posting a 2:03.59. Steve and Kevin ended up having a hard fought battle for the lead. In the end Kevin came in first only 3.2 seconds ahead of Steve. Fast race laps were: Kevin 2:03.62 and Steve 2:03.53.
