I went through the Jim Russell (ESPN) driver school program in 2004 getting my SCCA license through them, and did my first race with them in Sept ’04. I bought a Spec Racer Ford in the early spring of 2005, and have campaigned it since here in the San Francisco Region of SCCA (SRF #71). I read about the Spec E30 class in Grassroots Motorsports, and after reading some of the threads in SpecE30.com, I thought that this would be a great series to be involved in. Friendship and good sporting competition are important to me – I’m doing this for a hobby and fun! I bought an ’89 325i with a blown engine, and am currently having Walter from Valley Motorwerks getting it rebuilt and race ready (I’ve also spoken to John from Evil Genius Racing – he’s going to be doing my cage too). I have a very good friend who crews for me, Dan Ditrapani, who will be sharing the BMW with me in the endurance series. I put him through the SCCA drivers school last year, and I let him in the Spec Racer every now and then while I crew for him. He’s much faster than me (he needs to learn to not ‘beat the car owner!’) but I really enjoy the friendship and being able to share the time together. Dan and I work together at Stanford University. Dan works as a System Analyst in the Application Support group in IT. He supports my department. I’m the Director of Disbursements, working in the Controller’s Office. I have an MBA in Accounting, and I joined the University in this position in 1998. I’m 49 years old. I’m married to a very understanding and supporting woman named Delene. I began dating my wife in 1976 as a freshman in college, and we married in 1980. We have a boxer named Major, and live in Pacifica. My race team is 101 Motorsports, in memory of my father. I’m a private pilot, I have a Citabria and am currently building a kitplane replica of a WWII Tigermoth biplane. I have a hangar and fly out of Petaluma. For More info see also Team 101 Motorsport's Website. Doug will be sharing Spec E30 driving duties with Dan DiTrapani co-owner of the nicely prepped #71 Spec E30 seen in the photo below.
